BIG Yorkshireman Peter Swan could come in from the cold for tomorrow's clash against York City at Bootham Crescent.
Swan is on emergency stand-by with major injury doubts surrounding central defenders Mark Winstanley and Vince Overson.
Both Burnley stars are "very doubtful" for the fixture and will face late fitness tests before the important Division Two assignment.
The defensive partnership picked up injuries in the bruising midweek derby against Preston North End.
Winstanley is the major concern after badly gashing his shin and calf while Overson is struggling to overcome a leg strain.
Swan was due to feature in Wednesday's friendly fixture against Accrington Stanley but was rested as a precaution in the light of the defensive troubles. Jamie Hoyland and Chris Brass were also on stand-by today.
Assistant manager John Ward explained: "Vince and Mark are both struggling for tomorrow but we are keeping our fingers crossed that they will make it. "There is quite a big doubt about both of them and it remains to be seen whether they recover in time.
"It would be a pity if either of them missed the match because we are striving to keep the same side intact for tomorrow."
Burnley choose from: Beresford, Parkinson, Eyres, Harrison, Winstanley, Overson, Matthew, Smith, Nogan, Barnes, Gleghorn, Cooke, Brass, Swan, Hoyland, Heath, Weller.
Ward, who managed York so successfully from 1991 to 1993 and laid the foundations for an eventual promotion success, added: "I've been back to York a few times since and it's a place that holds a great deal of affection for me.
"It was the first club I managed and they gave me a terrific opportunity. I enjoyed every minute of my time there."
There will also be an emotional return to Bootham Crescent for striker Paul Barnes who became York's record signing when Ward paid Stoke £50,000 for his signature, a York record at the time. Former Clarets midfielder Adrian Randall is expected to be in the York squad after missing the midweek 2-0 win over Wycombe after his wife gave birth to a baby daughter, Jasmine, 24 hours earlier.
York select from: Clarke, McMillan, Tutill, Barrass, Hall, Murty, Pepper, Bushell, Himsworth, Tolson, Bull, Atkin, Campbell, Pouton, Randall, Stephenson.
Manager Adrian Heath returned from Holland today after watching his Norwegian target play in last night's Cup Winners' Cup tie between PSV Eindhoven and FC Brann of Bergen.
