POLICE forces, councillors and health and safety experts will join forces for the first time in a bid to improve road safety in the town.
The pioneering strategy has been set up with the help of Lancashire County Council's highways and transportation committee.
Three action groups are being created to cover East Lancashire, Central and West Lancashire and Lancaster and the Fylde.
Highways and transportation chairman Dennis Golden said: "I hope this new initiative will be a major step forward.
"For the first time, those responsible for policing and managing Lancashire's highways and those responsible for caring for road accident victims will join forces with the representatives of the working and business community to address road safety problems.
"Real benefits can only be achieved through changing the attitude of road users, particularly car users, towards others.
"I hope that through the work of these new Sector Action Groups we will begin to see a decline in the number of people injured on Lancashire's roads."
