FIVE-STAR meals were served up this week in Golborne.
To mark National Meals on Wheels Week five elderly diners enjoyed a special meal at the the Learning Disability Centre in Golborne.
The lucky five were treated to wholsome, milestone meals taking the number served up since April by the new Community Meals Service to a mammoth105,408.
With 438 years between them the diners were a cross-section of the elderly who use this vital service.
Meals are prepared at five locations across the borough, including Frank's Cafe in Tyldesley, DJ Catering in Atherton and Leigh Central Primary School kitchens, with menus rotated monthly and served every weekday.
Service manager Steve Gross commented: "National Meals on Wheels Day is a timely reminder of the wonderful service given to so many vulnerable members of the community for so many years by volunteers and the WRVS.
"But the day also highlights the fact that this vital task is still being carried by the Community Meals Service and is still enabling hundreds of people to continue to enjoy the independence of living in their own homes.
"Without the security of at least one good meal a day many of our older citizens would be forced to live in some form of institution."
