SOCCER fan Tony Richardson is pinning his hopes on a world record.
He hopes to knock down 5,000 pins in an arm-wrenching three hour marathon of 10-pin bowling.
And it's all to add new life to Leigh RMI.
Tony, 44, wants to launch an RMI Supporters Club, including a souvenir shop, and plans to raise at least £500 in next Tuesday's sponsored 10-pin slog at Wigan's Superbowl 2000.
"I have always been a Rugby League fan at Hilton Park," he said. "Then RMI arrived. And, from Day One, I was a committed fan.
"I don't even watch Rugby League these days.
"I didn't even watch football before they arrived. But I enjoy the enthusiasm of the team. I just wish more people would get behind them. I have been bowling competitively for some 30 years and this seemed a good idea to raise some much-needed funds.
"As far as I am aware there is no individual record for this kind of bowling. That should be interesting."
If you want to sponsor Tony, of Wigan Road, Leigh, you can contact him on 01942-707537 or catch him at the Hilton Park ground.
