BURY Council has a new man in charge because of illness to chief executive David Burton.
Dennis Taylor, director of competitive services, has been appointed as acting head of the authority.
Mr Burton has been seriously ill for months and is not expected to return to work for some time.
With budget cuts of up to £12 million forecast for next year, council leaders felt it necessary to fill the key position.
Mr Taylor joined Bury in 1989 as managing director of the council's in-house contracting team Bury Contract Services, which became the department of competitive services earlier this year.
Married and with two teenage sons, Mr Taylor (47) has lived in Brandlesholme for the last ten years.
