AN AMERICAN dream has come true for showgirl Gilda Kristian, who has every reason to give three cheers.

For the Blackpool beauty, aged 20, has landed a job with England's only American football team - the London Monarchs.

She is one of just 20 girls from throughout the country to be picked as the team's elite cheerleaders.

Long hours and short skirts will be the routine for Gilda as she prepares for her Wembley Stadium debut with the troupe in April.

Gilda said: "It is all very exciting, although it was quite difficult to get accepted.

"As well as auditions, I had to do an interview and write an essay about my opinion of the Government.

"They were looking for intelligent women who could sing and dance."

Gilda had spent two years in shows on cruise liners as lead vocalist and dancer when she saw the advert for the job with the London Monarchs.

Although she had never done cheerleading before, she just decided to go for it.

Gilda explained: "It just all looked like so much fun - and once I'd tried it, I really enjoyed it.

"I will be with the cheerleaders for at least a year and may even get the chance to work in America.

"But I am really looking forward to the matches at Wembley - I've only been there once and have always wanted to perform there."

She added: "The only thing is, I have to learn a lot of the rules of American football - I don't want to be cheering at the wrong time!"
