ITALIAN import Alfredo Bissani wants to break into the rough and tumble of the Football League - with Burnley.

And the Serie A defender is ready to swap the San Siro for Turf Moor in a bid to follow in the famous footsteps of Italian countrymen Roberto Di Matteo and Gianluca Vialli.

"I'm with Burnley for the next 20 days and I want to try and win a contract," said Bissani.

"I like the club already and I'm impressed with the manager. I would dearly like to play football in England."

Bissani played 15 times for Cremonese in Italy's Serie A last season and had spells with Como and Verona. He featured in high-profile games against Inter Milan and Roma. But despite offers on the table back home from several Italian clubs, Bissani wants to make the big break in England.

He added: "I enjoyed my first training session and I can see that Burnley have some very good players. I am looking forward to the next couple of weeks." Heath has scoured Europe for continental talent since taking over from Jimmy Mullen. The list includes striker Bambo from Boavista, Torsten Boer (Germany), Melchoir Shoenmakers (Holland), Walter Manda (Africa) and Italians Roberto Vezzosi and Andrei Cappechi.

But, while wages could be a stumbling block for any future deal with Bissani, he has the finest pedigree of the international talent that Heath has placed under the microscope.

Bissani is due to make his Clarets bow in the Pontins League fixture against Grimsby Town at Turf Moor on Wednesday.
