GED Furey will represent England in the Johnnie Walker European Team Championship in Spain by kind permission of two Scots!
Selection of the England team for the 21-nation, 54-hole championship on the Costa Del Sol from December 2-4 is based on the Glenmuir Club Professionals and Reebok Assistants Championships.
But both were won by Scottish players, Bill Longmuir triumphing in the club pros event and Steve Purves winning the assistants title.
Based in England, they were eligible to represent the international team, but declined to play against Scotland at Atalaya Park. Two other Scots, Gordon Law and Colin Ferguson, were second in both events, though they are Scotland-based and therefore not eligible to play for England in the championship.
"I'm just happy to be representing my country again," said Pleasington professional Furey who has in the past played against America in the PGA Cup.
"It's a great honour and I'm looking forward to it very much.
"The continent's been kind to me this year."
Partnering Geoff Wilson, Furey steered Pleasington to the Lombard Top Club title at San Lorenzo.
The England team for the Johnnie Walker Championship comprises Nick Brown (Mid-Herts), who played in the PGA Cup team against the USA, Cameron Smellie (North Manchester) as well as Furey.
