ALTHOUGH I feel very sorry for the plight of Mrs M E Cook (LET, November 16), I cannot understand anybody leaving home at 12.35pm for a 1pm hospital appointment.

We live approximately five miles from BRI but we would still have left home at 12.30pm to allow for such things as traffic hold-ups and roadworks, and to ensure getting parked up in good time for an appointment.

I would have thought that anyone travelling from the Langho/Whalley area must be aware of the ongoing roadworks, particularly around Brownhill. Mrs Cook may have been better dropping her husband at the hospital entrance before parking the car.

Incidentally, where Mrs Cook did park, near a permit holders-only sign, could have been outside the house of a disabled person or a person with young children who would then have had to walk some distance to or from their car.

I am not saying Mrs Cook should have received a parking fine, but in a way she was partly to blame for not allowing more time to get there and park up properly.
