BLACKPOOL 1 NOTTS COUNTY 0

JAMES Quinn's late penalty gave Blackpool their first league win since October 12 - a victory which manager Gary Megson thought his team did not deserve.

Megson said: "It's the first time I've been at Blackpool we have played so poorly and still come away with three points.

"We were awful in the first half and although we picked up the tempo after the break I don's think we deserved the points."

Megson had Steve Banks to thank for keeping a clean sheet, especially in the first half when he made a number of excellent stops.

First Gary Jones saw his 10-yard thunderbolt parried away on 28 minutes and five minutes later Banks again denied Jones with a superb reflex save.

Five minutes after the break a shot from Jones bounced back off the bar to Vince Arkins whose point-blank header forced yet another important stop from the impressive Blackpool keeper.

At the other end it took the Seasiders 66 minutes to register a shot on target and then Micky Mellon's 20-yard effort was safely gathered by Darren Ward.

Pool came to life in the closing half-hour when Tony Ellis replaced Chris Malkin and injected a little punch to the forward line.

Eventually Lee Philpott's trickery in the area earned a penalty when he was brought down by Shaun Derry on 77 minutes.

Quinn stepped up to the spot to send the keeper the wrong way for the second successive week and take his goal tally for the season into double figures.

Blackpool travel to fifth-placed Watford on Saturday (November 30).
