MANAGERS aren't the only thing in short supply at Lancaster City this week, the Blues are also low on strikers following the departure of top-scorer John Coleman. Former Morecambe man Coleman has quit Giant Axe to take over as manager at Unibond First Division club Ashton United who recently sacked their boss Phil Staley. And with last season's top scorer Stuart Diggle still out injured, City are ready to delve back into the transfer market to find a replacement for the man who has thrilled crowds on both sides of the Lune.

It was with the Shrimps that Coleman really made his name, finishing top scorer in each of his six seasons with the Christie park outfit. He quickly became a hero at Giant Axe after being signed by Alan Tinsley in March, scoring 12 goals in 11 games to help City to promotion.

This season Coleman has scored 20 goals in total - seven in the league and 13 in various cup competitions - as the Blues have started to find their feet in the new league.

Speaking after Coleman's departure, caretaker manager Mick Hoyle said: "We are sorry to lose John. He came at a crucial time last year and helped clinch promotion for us.

"I would like to thank him for his services to the club during the short time he was here and we wish him every success. I am sure he will do very well."
