HOPPERS progressed to the last 32 in the Pilkington Cup for the first time with a gutsy display at Moss Lane.
Given first use of a strong breeze, Hoppers rocked their division three opponents with 14 points in as many minutes.
The pack drove Mike Bailey over for an unconverted try in the second minute following a copybook line-out take by Phil Crayston.
Two drop goals and a penalty from Steve Kerry followed before the home side could get their breath.
A try by Sephton reduced the arrears before John Chesworth clinically finished off a John Bleasdale break with a try in the corner.
Kerry converted from the touchline.
A Wellens penalty and an individual try by home full back Brett reduced the arrears and against the wind Hoppers faced a tough second half.
Seven minutes after the break good work by Bleasdale and Glyn Dewhurst was rewarded by a try from Rob Smith.
The home side were not dead, however, with an unconverted try from Walker reviving their hopes.
Hoppers, backed by a large following, were not to be denied and with coach Chris Dew making full use of his four replacements, they held on for an historic victory.
Hoppers face Northampton in the next round which is a tremendous draw, with Hoppers looking forward to entertaining their old boy Paul Grayson.
