A MOTHER has enlisted an MP's help in her fight to let her daughter use a life-saving drug in school.

Little Holly Williams has been removed from St Bartholomew's School, Great Harwood, by her anxious mum, Tracey, after governors refused to let the young girl stay in class.

Holly was removed from class at the request of governors who felt they were unable to cope with her 'special needs'.

The eight-year-old suffers from the peanut allergy, amaphylaxis, and needs quick access to her antidote Epipen in case of a reaction - but school governors do not want it on site.

Now Hyndburn MP Greg Pope has become involved and has written to the chairman of governors and the county council's chief education officer.

He told the Citizen: "It's a complex situation and I am concerned Holly is out of school. Holly is entitled to eduction and someone needs to take responsibility.

"There are many children with similar problems who are educated at school and I see no reason why Holly can't stay in class. "

The allergy first came to light when Holly was a toddler. Her reaction ranges from swelling of the throat and lips to vomiting, watering eyes and skin blisters all of which puts Holly in hospital.

Mrs Williams, of Park Avenue, Great Harwood, said: "Holly's too young to use the antidote herself but it's simple to administer.

"What has angered me is no one wants to take responsibility and in the meantime Holly's education is suffering."

"She doesn't really understand what is happening and the longer she's out of school the more frustrated we will become.

"The governors have been quite supportive but I hope the situation is resolved soon."

Governors are due to meet representatives from Lancashire Education Authority at the school on Friday (November 29).

Chairman of governors, John Aldred, said the school had no money to cope with Holly's needs and added the LEA was being asked to provide funds to resolve the matter.

He added: "In the meantime Holly is receiving educational support from school."
