The proposed Foulridge bypass will be an expensive, short-term solution to traffic problems. It will transfer problems further along the A56, and, like all bypasses, it will be dangerous and so will be paid for with blood as well as money.
It will destroy an area of rare plants and animals, and its route along the old railway line will preclude any possible restoration of the Colne-Skipton link, without which the East Lancs line is doomed. Foulridge will be hemmed in between busy roads.
An easy solution to North Valley congestion would be a through-flow system for Colne, and, in the long term, an M65 extension.
