TEENAGE heroes who saved the life of a friend have been rewarded for their prompt action.

Paul Hooper of Tysley Grove, and twins Michael and Steven Plummer of Salterforth Road, all aged 15 and from Earby, received the Dennis Bamber Youth Award.

They saved the life of 12-year-old Lee Stockdale, of Warwick Drive, Earby, after he almost accidentally hanged himself near a playground in the town in August.

A rope had become tangled round his neck while he was climbing a tree

The selection committee said the boys showed a good example by helping in an emergency rather than walking away.

The friends, who attend Park High School, Colne, were presented with their award by Lee's mother Dawn Robinson at Earby's New Road Community Centre.
