LIKE many others in Darwen I have recently received a letter from Brian Mawhinney, the chairman of the Conservative Party. In it, he asked what really matters to me.

I find Mr Mahwhinney's letter very worrying. If his party doesn't know what the people want after 17 years in government, isn't it time they stood aside and let someone who does take charge.

Someone who will tackle the problems with our education system, who will introduce fast-track punishment for persistent young offenders.

Who will also cut NHS waiting lists by reducing wasteful red-tape, will get the under-25s off the dole and will take steps to strengthen the economy.

That certainly wouldn't happen under a Conservative government. Instead, we need an end of the Tory years in which the Government has wasted North Sea oil revenues and the receipts from the privatisation programme and still put up our taxes.

Enough is enough and Mr Major should call a General Election and let the people decide. This is better than Mr Mawhinney wasting time writing to us.
