SANTA swapped his famous sack for a shopping bag...with "I love Colne" on it.

He joined local councillors and traders in launching a feast of festive fun and a new shopping guide featuring some of the best places and shops to visit in the run-up to Christmas.

On December 14, Nelson Civic Junior Choir will be in the town centre to sing for shoppers.

And a week later, anyone out looking for a bargain will also be able to enjoy a trip down memory lane with horse and carriage rides.

Free sherry, mince pies and balloons will be available on both Saturdays while traders will be entering into the festive spirit by donning fancy dress.

The extravaganza has been organised jointly by Pendle Council and town centre traders.

Councillor Tony Greaves said: "The council is keen to work with traders to revitalise local trade and bring shoppers back to Colne.

"We have produced a leaflet for residents in Colne, Trawden and Laneshaw Bridge to encourage them to be loyal to their town."

The leaflet has also been distributed further afield to attract shoppers to the town.

Free copies of the shopping guide are available from Colne Library or by telephoning 01282 692890.
