BURNLEY are in line for a juicy third round tie against FA Cup favourites Liverpool at Anfield.

That is the Clarets' potential reward if they overcome Walsall in the second round replay a week today.

Burnley were paired with Liverpool for the second time in three seasons when the third round draw was made live on BBC TV last night.

And delighted Turf Moor chief Adrian Heath said: "We've still got a big job to do against Walsall but there is a fantastic prize waiting for us if we can reach the next round.

"It's a fabulous draw for us and what better incentive to beat Walsall. There is nothing quite like the FA Cup and we'd take 5-6,000 fans to Anfield. It would be close on a full house at Liverpool.

"I'm a great admirer of the way Liverpool approach the game and play football.

"They have great players and they set superb standards. It would be a memorable day for Burnley Football Club."

Meanwhile, the Clarets open their Auto Windscreens Shield campaign with a tricky first round tie at Hartlepool tonight (7.30).

Heath will field a "strong side" and he promised: "A lot of people knock the competition but no-one knocks it when they get to Wembley. "We will take this competition as seriously as the rest of our games.

"Burnley have reached Wembley in this competition before and we will try and make that our aim."

Heath could hand a Clarets bow to Glen Little, a recent £100,000 signing from Glentoran.

One change could come in defence where Heath may replace Gerry Harrison. He is suspended from Saturday's important home game with Brentford. Vince Overson could get a start.

Burnley from: Beresford, Parkinson, Eyres, Harrison, Swan, Brass, Smith, Weller, Nogan, Cooke, Gleghorn, Overson, Little, Thompson.

Hartlepool from: O'Connor, Ingram, Lee, Davies, McCauley, Clague, Cooper, Beech, Hislop, Irvine, Howard, Allon, Tait, Homer.

Burnley only have a small number of tickets remaining for the Boxing Day clash with Blackpool at Bloomfield Road.

Turf Moor officials say tickets are selling fast and anticipate all remaining tickets will be sold before the weekend. Season ticket holders should use Voucher J. One voucher for one ticket. £8.50 (Adults), £6.50 (Conc).

Normal league admission prices will apply for the FA Cup second round replay against Walsall at Turf Moor on December 17. (7.45).

The Auto Windscreens Shield has a straight knockout format from tonight's first round stage onwards. In previous seasons, this stage of the tournament has been played on a round-robin basis with the top two clubs in each group going through to the next stage.
