BURY 3 DARLINGTON 1

BURY progressed to the second round of the Trophy with a comprehensive victory over Third Division promotion rivals Darlington.

Twenty-year-old David Johnson could have had a hat trick before Lenny Johnrose opened the scoring with a header from a cross from Andy Woodward.

Darlington fought back and got a deserved equaliser through Daniel Barbara who beat Dean Kiely with a clever lob.

The second half saw Bury tear Darlington to pieces. Mark Carter could have added to his season's tally before he claimed number 12 as he scored from a pinpoint Tony Rigby free kick.

The game was over when, in the 64th minute, Chris Lucketti scored the third header of the night having started a move from the back before converting Carters' cross.

Manager Stan Ternent commented after the match: "Darlington posed problems in the first half, but we had a conflab at half time and changed a couple of things, and it worked a treat."

Manchester City once again had a possee of scouts looking at Chris Lucketti.

Adrian Randall watched the game and confirmed that he will be signing for the Shakers this morning.
