SUPERMARKET giants Asda are planning to replace their Clayton Green store with a new multi-million shopping complex - without any disruption to customers.

If the scheme gets the go-ahead, a modern Asda and several shop units will be built on the car park next to the existing superstore.

When the new building is complete, the present store and adjoining shops will be demolished to make way for a new car park.

The scheme also includes an upgrading of Clayton Green sports centre and the floodlit all-weather pitches next to the Asda complex, which also remain open throughout the changes.

The new scheme, which safeguards hundreds of local jobs, has been agreed following negotiations between Asda and Chorley Council, although the company has still to submit a detailed planning application.

Chorley Council leader Coun John Wilson said: "We are really pleased with the arrangement, which will ensure continuity of service of all the facilities at the sports centre."
