THERE'S life in Burnley's dead pubs yet, say reunion organisers Jack and June Taylor.

The couple put out a call to all the old regulars from Padiham Road pubs, demolished to make way for the M65 motorway some 15 years ago, to come along to a special get-together this week.

Their major concern was that the diehards who used to frequent hostelries like the Garrison, Clifton, Roebuck and Union, were mostly... well, dead.

"You are more likely to meet those who are left in the hospital than in a pub these days," said June.

And they feared there would be few remaining to attend the knees-up at Rosegrove Railway Club on Friday. But concern was quashed after Jack and June of Sycamore Avenue put out a call for support in the Lancashire Evening Telegraph and received a terrific response to the dead pubs reunion.

"We were inundated by calls after the report appeared and it is an absolute sell-out, with all 180 tickets snapped up within days and lots of people wanting copies of the old photograph which appeared in the paper," said June.

But that has left the organisers with another problem - they have been forced to 'call time' on anyone else hoping to attend.

"We did say tickets would be available on the door on the night but that is impossible now - the club will already be packed!"

She added: "We would just like to warn people that there is simply no room at the inn and people will be disappointed if they turn up to get in."
