A MEMORIAL to soldiers who served in World War One has been restored to its former glory.
The tribute to workers from the Co-op who served and those who gave their lives in the Great War has now been rescued twice by former teacher John Hartley of Earby.
He used to take children from Park High School in Colne to Flanders in France to see the First World War battlefields.
He began to research soldiers from Colne and found there had been a plaque on the wall of the Co-op - which was later discovered in a loft next to a water tank.
It was recovered and placed in a shop unit, but the business folded and Mr Hartley then asked Barnfield Construction, owners of the premises, if he could rescue it again.
Tim Webber of Barnfield agreed to have the plaque restored and put into a new gilt frame.
The plaque has now been placed on a wall at Colne Heritage Centre in the library.
