WHAT'S 13 feet tall, weighs one ton and is made of wood? You may think a yacht, a scout hut or even Kiwi Rugby Union giant Jonah Lomu.
But a trip to Witton Country Park on Preston Old Road, Blackburn will unravel the wood-be mystery.
Standing tall and proud and guarding the entrance to the woods, visitors will find a big, friendly giant - not Roald Dahl's version - but Lisa Treadwell's.
The 28-year-old, who is the park's assistant wildlife warden, spent six months painstakingly carving her eye-catching Woodsman sculpture in Norfolk before bringing it home to Blackburn.
She said: "I was working as a warden in a wood in Norfolk when I noticed a tree trunk which looked like a pair of legs.
"I'd done a lot of forestry work and thought it'd be nice try and turn the trunk into a woodsman sculpture and take it back home to Blackburn."
Lisa used a heavy chain saw, a chisel and mallet to carve out her weathered work-of-art and used oak for his legs, ash for his arms and cherry for his facial features.
Blackburn Council agreed to give the majestic monument a home at Witton Park and now the loveable lumberjack keeps a watchful eye over his creator.
Lisa added: "Kids love to come and see him and he is like one of the team.
"It's nice to work next to him every day because he's like a close friend guarding the park."
