YOUNGSTERS are flocking to the borough's latest club - to do their homework.
Scholars aged from eleven to 18 have been dropping into Whitefield library to study in a specially created environment.
They have been attending the new Homework Club, open at the Pinfold Lane branch every Monday from 4pm to 6pm.
The scheme builds on the success of the i-Point centre opened there last year, believed to be the first of its kind in the North West.
Coun David Willis, chairman of leisure services, said the council wanted to encourage young people to make the most of Bury's libraries.
"We have tried to provide both comfortable and relaxing surroundings where students can study without being weighed down by too many rules and regulations," he said.
"The Homework Club is an extension of this. Students can come down on a set night and obtain advice on where and how to access the material they need."
Pupils can look at study guides for GCSE courses as well as the latest CD-Roms on languages and other subjects. Information packs available cover everything from university directories to careers and social security leaflets.
Leisure bosses want to expand the service to other libraries in the borough.
Coun Willis added: "The Homework Club has been operating for just a couple of weeks but is steadily attracting more young people and we expect that to continue.
"Joining is easy and it is free, the only rule is that students must have proof of residence in the borough."
