BURY North MP Alistair Burt is set for an international football appearance - playing for Scotland!
The soccer-mad minister is playing for the North of the Border side in a charity penalty competition during the Rangers v Hearts match at Ibrox tomorrow, February 1.
Although Bury born and bred, and a regular at Gigg Lane Mr Burt's parents are Scottish and, he points out, he is more Scottish than Scotland goalkeeper Andy Goram, also born in Bury.
"I am 100 per cent, whereas Andy's father was Scottish, making him 50 per cent," said the MP.
"Against any other team I would always support England, but I knew that if I ever got the chance to play in a Scotland v England match there was only one colour shirt I could wear - a blue one."
The charity shoot-out will be held between English and Scottish teams of MPs, who are all members of the Parliamentary Beer Club, the biggest all-party group in Westminster.
Mr Burt will take his father, retired GP Dr James Burt, to Ibrox for the game.
