KURT Nogan is likely to figure in a player-swop deal between Burnley and Scottish premier league side Hearts.

The want-away Welsh striker has a good chance of signing for the Edinburgh team after spending two impressive days in training with the club this week.

Hearts boss Jim Jeffries was at Edgeley Park last night (Wednesday) to see Nogan play in a Stockport v Burnley reserves match.

The troubled goal-king has been valued by some pundits at £1 million, and, although £400,000 is a more realistic figure, it is thought Hearts do not have that kind of money.

That means Jeffries will probably have to offer Adrian Heath a player-plus-cash deal. Names in the frame include Jeremy Goss and Neil Pointon.

Heath was interested in Goss before the start of the current season but has not yet made an approach for the former Norwich star.

The manager says his squad is short of players, and with Nogan set to leave and Paul Barnes out through injury the Clarets are lacking a cutting edge up front.

Stockport drove that message home on Tuesday as they held Burnley at bay, despite having a man sent off, to win the Auto Windscreen clash 1-0.

Barnes faces a fitness test on his injured knee before the clash with his old team, York City, at Turf Moor on Saturday (February 8).

The Clarets need to improve on the performance which saw them lose 1-0 to the Minstermen at Bootham Crescent in November.

Ex-skipper Steve Thompson will be hoping for an extended first-team run after his return to action on Tuesday. The midfielder was out for four months after being dropped three weeks into the season.

And young striker Colin Carr-Lawton, who impressed with his appearance as a substitute against Stockport, could also get a chance for another run out.
