THE Tories are at it again, promises, promises and more promises. John Major is spouting about Britain's prosperity and giving people a greater share of it through more share ownership. But who will be the fortunate ones to benefit? Those who are the ones this government really care about, the rich, of course.
How many working families jumped on the bandwagon when gas, water, electricity and BT shares became available? Not many.
The Tories have never been a benefactor of the working classes. Their aim is for the rich to become richer, the poor to stay where they are. John Major said the Tories were on course to double living standards by the year 2020.
They have had 18 years in office and he is crowing about doubling standards by 2020. In total that is 38 years the poor working family would have to wait to see their standards rise under a Tory government.
Their double standards can also be interpreted in other ways.
In the early eighties, a ploy of theirs was 'Buy your own home.' How many unsuspecting families followed their great advice and how many now have been left sobbing and in misery, having seen their homes repossessed?
The Tory election slogan is: 'Tears under Labour.' I'm sure a few tears are better than the uncontrolled sobbing and misery this lot have caused.
