BURNLEY are still hunting Raith Rovers' Scotland Under-21 international Paul Browne.

The defender has returned to Scotland after a week long trial at Turf Moor and Burnley are monitoring the situation closely.

The Clarets are planning to watch Browne in action again, possibly next week, and Turf Moor chief Adrian Heath confirmed: "He did well during his trial and we were impressed by what he had to offer.

"It remains to be seen whether we make a move for him but we are keeping a close eye on the situation.

"Unfortunately we were not able to play him in a game down here but we want to look at him in his own environment in Scotland and assess him form there." First Division strugglers Grimsby and Second Division Watford are also showing eager interest, with the Mariners reported to have had a £200,000 bid turned down by Raith.

In the meantime, skipper Nigel Gleghorn is unlikely to return to first team action until April.

Although the midfielder is jogging again and making progress from the ligament injury which has forced him out of action for the past three weeks, he is unlikely to return until after the Easter programme.

Heath added: "Nigel is jogging again but it will be another four weeks before we see him again. Anything earlier than that will be a real bonus.

"Straight running is not a problem for him. It is just when you open the medial ligament out when you go in for a block tackle .

"He needs to make sure that everything is right before he returns. We certainly don't want to lose him for the rest of the season by rushing him back too quickly.

"Nigel is a very influential and experienced member of our squad and we want him firing on all cylinders."
