A Cricket club treasurer at the centre of a row with his steward has blamed a clash of personalities for the feud.
Frank Greenwood, social treasurer at Nelson Cricket Club, told astonished members at the club's annual meeting: "Either the steward goes or I do."
Mr Greenwood today said he would wait for the outcome of a committee meeting tonight before making a decision on whether to stay in his position.
The steward, Martin McCarthy, vowed: "I'm not going anywhere. There's no question of me leaving the club."
Mr McCarthy declined to comment further. He said the matter was in danger of being blown out of proportion and was damaging the club.
Mr Greenwood explained: "I found that I could no longer stay in a working relationship with our steward and in the circumstances I felt that either he had to go or I had to go."
He added: "He and I have crossed swords over certain matters."
Mr Greenwood stressed his resignation threat had nothing to do with the club's £11,000 losses.
