REGARDING the redesign of Blackburn Boulevard, Coun Andy Kay (Letters, February 19) states full consultation was made with various groups within the town. However, one major group was omitted - the general public and bus commuters.
Why must the transport interchange for buses and trains be kept together? Was a survey carried out beforehand asking rail users if they used buses after leaving the station?
I would think the number who do would be very small.
Surely a much more convenient location for the bus terminal would have been the site of the old wholesale market, which is much nearer the shopping centre.
It can already be seen that the major pick-up points for the buses are Penny Street, Ainsworth Street and the bottom of Railway Road, not the Boulevard, which appears pretty much deserted. Regarding the 'few cars' that approach the railway station from Darwen, was a survey carried out? I think not as the Darwen Street bridge area is always congested with traffic.
Judging by the number of complaints, is it not time the planners and councillors behind the road scheme held their hands up and admitted to the horrendous mistakes that have been made and went back to the drawing board?
