AN elderly woman who suffered a fractured hip at the hands of two teenage muggers has spoken of her terrifying ordeal.
It was the second time that 85-year-old Clara Crosby has been the victim of a bag snatch attack just yards from her home.
But the plucky pensioner today vowed that it would not stop her from leaving her home for the daily walks that she enjoys.
The widow was returning home from a Blackburn bingo hall when the youths struck in Cowell Way, Blackburn.
Clara said: "I had my handbag on my arm with the strap wrapped around my wrist.
"A little boy came flying up, grabbed my bag and then pushed me to the floor.
"I screamed out for help. Luckily a couple in a neighbouring house came to my rescue.
"They contacted my daughter and the ambulance service."
The bag contained a small amount of cash, a bus pass, and some family photographs.
Mrs Crosby, who also had her bag snatched as she crossed nearby Montague Street, Blackburn, several years ago, added: "In my mind I was trying to defend my bag. But it simply isn't worth it." "I hope the police catch these young people as soon as possible."
Blackburn CID's Detective Inspector Neil Smith today appealed for urgent assistance in catching the attackers who struck at 4.30pm on Sunday.
He added: "This a particularly nasty attack on a vulnerable old lady.
"I would like to remind people that they could qualify for a CrimeStoppers reward of up to £500 if they provide information which leads to an arrest."
The robbers were described as white.
One was 5ft 8in tall with dark, short hair with a straight fringe, aged between 16 and 18 years. He wore a three-quarter length, dark, shiny jacket.
The other was 5ft 10in tall with his hair scraped back and short at the back. He is aged between 17 and 18 years, of medium build and wore a blue blouson jacket.
