REGARDING the first of the reports by Bill Jacobs referring to Freemasonry and the events in the so-called 'boxing night' assault case at Blackburn (LET, February 26), he has obviously taken the context from the original information reported in your newspaper at the time.
I must make the point clear that it was not a 'boxing night' but a dinner dance, held with the wives and widows of Victory Lodge.
No mention has been made of the Mason who had to attend hospital because of a suspected broken nose, or the considerable distress caused by the intruders to the ladies present.
Author Martin Short is obviously clutching at straws to try to convince the Commons Home Affairs Committee that there is a collusion between Masonry and the judiciary.
WILLIAM WATSON, (member - and proud to be - of Victory Lodge), Revidge Road, Blackburn.
Footnote: The event was described as a 'boxing night' throughout the trial and subsequently. This is the first time the description has been questioned - Editor.
