A MAGNIFICENT seven who joined a "Quit and Get Fit'' course are celebrating three months of non smoking.
Only one of the original eight who joined the programme at the William Thompson Recreation Centre was unable to stay the course.
Since making the New Year resolution to quit, the seven have succeeded with the help of expert advisers at the centre.
"Surveys show the main reason people don't stop smoking is fear of putting on weight," said Linda Searle, Burnley Council's health and fitness development officer. "These sessions prevent that problem by introducing people gradually to excercise.''
Linda added: "Smoking is a major risk factor in many illnesses including heart disease, breathing problems and cancer.''
The two-hour weekly sessions included advice from Burnley and Pendle NHS Trust health education specialist Janet Walton, plus an hour at the Centre's Future Fitness suite.
