Me and my Girl at the Grand Theatre

PRIME SUSPECT star Helen Mirren is on the silver screen at the Dukes this week in the movie Some Mother's Son.

The year is 1981 and in the face of increasing paramilitary activity in Northern Ireland, the British Government is employing strong tactics to restore order. Arrested and sent to H-block are two young men who meet Bobby Sands and become inspired by his fight for political status.

But on the outside are their two mothers - one played by Mirren - who mount a campaign to save their children. The film examines the lives of two women and the moral choices they have to make in the face of their son's hunger strike. Some Mother's Son runs from March 16-19.

Also at the Dukes this week from March 13-15 is The Brothers McMullen with a slice of Iris-American style romance. Guaranteed to give you a Friday night feeling if only for the presence of Jennifer Aniston, who plays Rachel from Friends, and John Mahoney more commonly known as Frasier.

Next, comes the Umbrellas of Cherbourg from March 14-15 and Welcome to the Dollhouse from March 17-19.

Finally this week's round up of films closes with Steam on the Screen 3 - a must for train buffs and film lovers alike.
