PRESTON firefighter Rick Matthews reached new heights when he tried out the county's new aerial ladder platforms.
The new appliance based at Preston cost £350,000 and is built to last 15 years. Four firefighters can work from a height of more than 100 feet and discharge up to a thousand gallons of water.
County councillor Bob Clark, of Lancashire's Fire Service and Public Protection Committee, said: "The new equipment provides a phenomenal field of operation, and the remote controlled facilities will improve safety for firefighters by allowing them to work at ground level in high risk situations.
"It will keep Lancashire's Fire Brigade at the forefront of new technology well into the next century."
