LEIGH RMI boss Steve Waywell refused to be disheartened.

Saturday's 2-1 home defeat by Bradford PA saw his side's chances of promotion take another alarming nose-dive.

"I still fancy our chances," he said. "There is still time in the title race and there are too many points still to available to rule us out."

The defeat had to be laid firmly at the door of Dave Felgate who was at fault on both of Bradford's goals.

The first on 19 minutes came when full-back Clive Freeman curled a free-kick from just outside the box over the wall and over the former Bolton Wanderers' goalkeeper, who had come off his line.

Six minutes later Felgate made his second blunder when he raced out of his area to clear Freeman's long ball that had beaten Leigh's offside trap.

Felgate realised he couldn't get to it in time, but, instead of continuing his run, he stopped and striker Martin Regan coolly chipped the ball into an empty net.

Injury-hit Leigh battled hard to get back on terms, and when Mark Schofield headed home a Chris Shaw cross in the 52nd minute they had a chance of recovering.

But Lady Luck wasn't on their side. Shaw was brought down from behind on the edge of the box when he was clean through. But what could have been a goal for Leigh resulted in just a booking for defender Tony Brown.

The referee had no hesitation, however, in giving Tony Edwards his marching orders 15 minutes from time for a second bookable offence.

LEIGH ATHLETIC were devastating as they beat third-placed Accrington Amateurs 3-1.

Neil Sumner broke the deadlock with a clinical finish after a slide-rule pass from Steve Kidd.

Johnny Knowles added a second with a super strike before Sumner added his second.

A cracking display from the team with Kevin Smith showing attacking flair from full-back.

On Saturday Athletic are at home to Chadderton.

Inspired by Paul Entwistle, Athletic 2nd won 4-1 at Blackburn. Goals from Phil Jones 2, Steve Clough and Richard Scott.
