TORPEDO boat seamen who died for Britain's freedom in the last war are finally to be remembered.
A special memorial will be erected in the heart of Bury at Whitehead Gardens, next to the Fusiliers monument.
Councillors have given their approval following a request from the East Lancashire branch of the Coastal Forces Veterans Association.
The memorial will be in stone with a model torpedo mounted on it, containing the Roll of Honour.
Only now, after recent computerisation of War Graves Commission records, could all those Costal Forces servicemen who lost their lives in World War II be properly identified.
Members say a torpedo is a particularly appropriate choice for a monument, because Coastal Forces used motor torpedo boats as their main attack craft.
