A HEYSHAM man was blasted into the air in an explosion on Monday morning after he used a blow torch to burst open a container storing dangerous gases.
Albert Coultas, aged 49, was taken to the Royal Lancaster Infirmary and treated for cuts to his head and shoulders after he was struck by the door of the container.
The Plant and Tool Hire worker had been trying to break into a padlocked 40 ft container to mend a piece of machinery at the Crowther Homes building site, off Lune Road, in Lancaster.
DS Tracey Launder said: "The blow torch ignited gases in the storage container and the door hit him in the face."
