SIR Arnold Wilson MP, commenting on pre-war National Socialist Germany, said: "The criminal courts have never had so little to do and the prisons have never had so few occupants. It is a pleasure to observe the physical aptitude of the German youth.

"Even the poorest persons are better clothed and fed than was formerly the case and their cheerful faces testify to their psychological improvement that has been wrought within them."

This was Germany in the 1930s.

Compare this with Britain in the 1990s.

Our prisons are full to bursting - so much so that plans are being mooted to convert former holiday camps and ships in which to incarcerate our legion of criminals.

The youth of Britain has never been more decadent and in need of moral guidance and no psychological improvement can ever, under these circumstances, be seen on the horizon.

All our three main political parties are committed to this decline.
