A CAMPAIGN urging thousands of people to write for the freedom of Blackburn student Paul Wells has been launched.

Paul's father Mr Bob Wells wants the public to help by sending letters to every town and village community in Kashmir, the province where Paul was captured on July 4, 1995.

Mr Wells, of Bracken Close, Feniscowles, Blackburn, will return to Kashmir next month with relatives of Paul's fellow captives, Middlesbrough man Keith Mangan and German Dirk Hasert. He hopes the letters might pave the way for him to gain vital information from local families.

The campaign is being supported by the Wells' family vicar, Rev John Cree of Immanuel Parish Church, Feniscowles.

He said: "At Immanuel, we believe firmly that prayer and practical help go hand in hand.

"We wish to do even more to put pressure on the various parties involved so that we can gain more information."

Outlines for the letters and addresses can be obtained from the Rev John Cree, The Vicarage, 732, Preston Old Road, Feniscowles, Blackburn BB2 5EN.
