PUNTERS at the Hyndburn Bridge pub in Clayton-le-Moors were celebrating success at Kelso yesterday.
Rascally, part owned by John Townson of Whalley and a syndicate of locals at the pub, led from the fourth in the Croall Bryson Handicap Hurdle and held on well on the run-in to land odds of 8-1 against.
Four horses were still in with a chance but Rascally took it from Dockmaster and Cash Box.
It was a game performance by Rascally who was pulled up in a point-to-point earlier this year. Always in the firing line, she battled on well after the last and seemed to suit the step up in trip.
"She has won over two-and-a-half miles but I thought she would need two miles six furlongs on this sharp track," said trainer Lynn Siddall.
"I didn't decide to run her until I had looked at the track. She doesn't want the ground too firm. She will go chasing next season."
Rascally delighted owner Townson with her spirited effort.
"It was a very gutsy performance and she proved her mettle and staying power," he said. "We're hoping to run her at the Scottish Grand National meeting and perhaps at the Perth National Hunt festival as well."
