FUND-RAISERS are hoping flower power will bring a healthy crop of cash this summer.
Rossendale Hospice Appeal staff have come up with the bright idea of raising money by staging a sponsored sunflower grow during May and June.
Sunflower seeds donated by Patricia's Floral Fair, Rawtenstall, can be planted any time after May 1.
The competition ends on July 15, by which time entrants must have registered the height of their sunflower with the hospice.
Appeals director Liz Ratcliffe said: "It would be lovely to see sunflowers blooming all over the Rossendale Valley throughout the summer and we hope it will help our fund-raising bloom. With the expansion into Cribden House we need to work hard."
In 1996, more than £2,000 was raised through the sale of pin-on sunflowers which will be on sale again this year.
The sunflower is the national emblem of hospices.
To join the sponsored grow, telephone the hospice appeals office on 01706 240081.
