ONE-LEGGED Bacup steeplejack Stephen Goggins had an amazing escape from serious injury when he was struck by lightning as he worked 45ft up a mill chimney. He was fitting a new lightning conductor to the outside of the 200ft-high chimney at Kearns of Waterfoot Ltd.
Stephen, who lost his leg below the knee in a motorcycle accident, was able to climb down the ladder to safety. He was taken to hospital with burns to his hands and an arm.
