A PIECE of history was revealed when the old Haslingden Grammar School building in Bury Road finally bit the dust.
Demolition men removed the last section of the front wall and under the foundation stone, which was laid in 1902 by Sir William Mather MP, they found local newspapers, a copy of a souvenir brochure given to guests at the opening ceremony and three Edward VII coins - a shilling, a sixpence and a penny - all dated 1902.
Shortly before the wall came down, a TV camera crew arrived to film what was left of the school where Sir Rhodes Boyson MP was a student in the 1940s.
The shots will be shown in a programme about the life of Sir Rhodes which will be screened before the end of the year.
The building has gone to make way for a housing development.
