A FATHER has started a petition in an attempt to get a pelican crossing placed on a busy road - after his three children were forced to dice with death on their way home from school.
Ian Guy wants a safe place for residents of Lower Darwen Village to cross Sandy Lane before a child or pensioner are killed.
He said: "Earlier this week I nearly lost all my children when they were narrowly missed by a speeding car. It was the last straw and I am determined to make somebody listen to the fears of villagers about this ridiculous situation."
Mr Guy, of Highercroft Road, is collecting signatures in the village and surrounding estates and plans to present it to the council.
"I collected nearly 50 signatures in 15 minutes on my first day out, which just shows the strength of feeling on this issue," he added.
Highercroft councillor Jack Bury, has pledged his support to the new campaign. He said: "I have always been very concerned about the amount of traffic using this particular road and have brought it to the attention of the authority on numerous occasions.
"I will do all I can to see the villagers get what they want."
Anybody else who wants to lend their support to the campaign can contact Mr Guy on 01254 582341.
