A PLAN to build a £2 million Co-op superstore, creating up to 80 jobs, lay in tatters amid claims that the trading giant had been 'let down' by Blackburn Council.
Co-op chiefs said they were 'unlikely' to go ahead with construction of a modern store in Charles Street, Darwen, following a disagreement over the price of the land. The group claimed the deal hinged on a council agreement to sell the site at less than market value - a move blocked by government watchdogs.
