A MUM-of-four has launched a one-woman Kill Your Speed campaign against dangerous drivers near her home.
Elizabeth Shanley says motorists speed along a wide stretch of Warley Road, near Claremont Park, putting children and the elderly in danger.
She has launched a petition and written to Blackpool Council, pleading for traffic-calming measures.
Mrs Shanley said: "You take your life in your hands every time you cross here.
"Some motorists drive as though they are approaching a runway.
"If they were to hit anybody at this speed it would be fatal."
"Two people had already been killed near here.
"Please don't let it take the life of another before anything is done about this."
Elizabeth initially launched the campaign out of concern for her children, aged three to 11, who have to cross the road every day to get to Claremont Primary School.
But once she started the petition, she gained widespread support, not only from parents but the elderly, cyclists and bowlers and tennis players who use the park.
Speed-humps, a mini-roundabout or pedestrian crossing would help slow the traffic, she suggested.
Blackpool transport chairman Councillor Roy Fisher said he was most concerned.
"I have checked the accident statistics and asked for the police to do speed-checks on the area," he said.
"As soon as the petition is presented, I will ask the transportation committee to consider what action should be taken to slow down traffic on Warley Road."
