A MOUNTAIN of traditional Nepalese goods will be among the wonders on display at the Derian House charity street market in Blackpool this month.

Sarki Tamang comes from a small village near Mount Everest but has now settled in Poulton with wife Jayne.

But the pair want to keep up a connection with Sarki's home and have decided to use the charity market to launch a series of ventures connected with the country.

The Tamangs' plans include cooking traditional Nepalese cuisine in people's homes and treks and tours to Nepal in the winter which will be led by Sarki, who used to be a trekking guide.

Their stall at the market will include woollen rugs and mats, cotton bags in all different sizes and traditional cushion covers.

The stall itself will not be run as a charity, but items are purchased from a Tibetan refugee camp and the women's development centre so the Tamangs' hope they are also helping people in Nepal.

Other stalls include crafts and bric-a-brac and, on April 20, a stall selling photos from NASA, the American space agency. Organiser Lesley Greenslade of the Derian South Fylde Support Group said: "All the stalls for the first week and most stalls for the second week have already been leased out and I am still receiving calls.

"One lady of 92 rang and booked a stall, but must have changed her mind because she rang back saying she had decided she was too old! She said we could keep the £10 fee though."

The street market takes place at the World of Coronation Street in Blackpool on April 20 and 27.
