Morecambe FC Chairman Ken Parker resigned this week to make way for a new boss to take the club into the next millennium.

Citing work commitments and the responsibility of running the expanding club as his reasons for stepping down, Mr Parker will now become a life Vice-President.

The new chairman will be board member and life-long supporter, Rod Taylor.

Mr Taylor, 44, has four children and runs a retirement home with his wife, Karen.

After Monday night's election to the post, Mr Taylor said: "It is a great honour to be elected Chairman of Morecambe Football Club.

Much progress has been made over the last 3-4 years, but with the plans for the new stand well in advance, promise just as much progress if not more. These are exciting times at Christie Park and it is my ambition to bring league football to the club."

Mr Parker went on record to say there was no bad feeling surrounding the move and that he would continue to play a supporting role at the club.

Also at the meeting, the board decided to boost the club's coffers and collectively raised £25,000 to assist developments on and off the field.

The rest of the board will remain unchanged with Graham Hodgson as Vice Chairman and Financial Director, Dick Danson, Director of Football, Peter McGuigan, overseeing the development of the new stand, and David Derham and David Robinson, developing the clubs commercial activities.
