CHOIRMASTER Fred Shaw has retired after nearly 25 years.
Mr Shaw, of Henfold Road, Tyldesley, was choirmaster and musical director of Astley Male Voice Choir and later, Deep Harmony Male Voice Choir.
He had the ability to teach singers who could not read music and could conduct a two-hour concert without music copies.
Choristers thanked Mr Shaw for his service and made presentations to Mr Shaw and his wife.
His successor is retired music teacher Alan Eaves.
